Road Warrior Bag - Kata DR-467

July 17th, 2008 by Mark Griffin | No Comments | Filed in Griffs View, Tech and Gadgets

Well now being the proud owner of a Canon EOS 40D i had to decide on the best way to carry it when out and about. I travel quiet a bit so i looked around to try to find a bag that was multipurpose, a kind of road warrior all in one bag.  Now admittedly i have a weakness for bags and luggage in general especially gear that is well made and shows a thought out design process. The beauty of the web and the social contacts you make around the world, is that you get tips and suggestions for products and services outside what you see locally. This is how i found out about Kata Bags.

They have so much great gear and i decided on the Kata DR-467 - Digital Rucksack.

This bag is great with fantastic build quality and the layout of the storage options is excellent. It enables me to store all my digital gear easily including my laptop, phone, iPod, camera and so much more. It also comes with an optional trolley insert if you need one . Soon ill do a “Whats in my bag” post A la Lifehacker which you should check out, its so amazing to see what people carry these days.

My Camera History Revisited

July 15th, 2008 by Mark Griffin | No Comments | Filed in Griffs View, Tech and Gadgets

After reading a post on a friends blog i was inspired to put together a list of the camera’s that i have owned or been given as gifts from my family. It was interesting to see how far we have come over the years. My passion for photography is stronger than ever, one that was shared by my dad. I love taking pictures from places I’m lucky enough to visit or just capturing something that catches my eye when I’m out and about every day.

The one trend i have noticed is that most of my cameras have been a Canon and all of them have been excellent, never letting me down. My latest gadget a Canon 40D is simply excellent and makes me want to get out there and capture more and more pictures.

This is a gallery of the cameras, its like a timeline and brings back lots of memories.

3G iPhone launch Perth 11-07-08

July 11th, 2008 by Mark Griffin | 4 Comments | Filed in Griffs View, Tech and Gadgets

The iPhone release here in Perth has been dismal at best, very poorly launched and i wish i could say over hyped and under delivered but that would give undue credit where it is not due.

I have been amazed at the lack of advertising here for the iPhone and today i walked into the city center from my office to check first hand what was happening.

iPhone - Yes or No

July 9th, 2008 by Mark Griffin | No Comments | Filed in Griffs View, Tech and Gadgets

Now that the 3 carriers here in Australia have released details of their iPhone plans we can at least make a decision on whether to sign up or not.

For me after waiting for over 1 year for the iPhone, I’m totally disappointed but not surprised by the plans for the iPhone. The plans are simply not good enough and the words “rip off” just about covers it. For some reason the telecommunications industry seems to think Australians are complete morons and completely unaware of what the rest of the world is doing in regards to mobile data.

How can the phone companies justify these charges?

The plans are just a complete joke and clearly treat all of Australians with contempt.

Property Development Eyesore

June 26th, 2008 by Mark Griffin | No Comments | Filed in Griffs View

Currently if you live in Perth you cant miss the amount of construction taking place in the city due to the booming economy. This is all on the back of the mining industry and has spawned development in the city on a massive scale. Living in the city is great and in my local area of East Perth the construction is mad. There are apartments going up all over the place on nearly every street and we even have a new fire station being built close by.

Get off the mobile while driving

June 22nd, 2008 by Mark Griffin | No Comments | Filed in Griffs View, Tech and Gadgets

Every day I still see people holding there mobile phones while driving and just don’t get it. Are these people just stupid or simply arrogant and defiant of the law? Look firstly let’s make one thing clear, I’m not a fan of a police state or just fining people to make money.

After nearly being cleaned up multiple times while driving by people distracted by chatting on their mobile phones I just needed to vent a little.

Australian Govt Refugee Allowances v Aust Pensioners

June 6th, 2008 by Mark Griffin | No Comments | Filed in Griffs View

It is interesting that the Federal Government provides a Single Refugee with a monthly allowance of $1,890.00 and each can also get an additional $580.00 in Social Assistance, so a total of $2,470.00 per month. A Family of 4 can receive $9,880.00 per month or yearly $118,685

A single Australian pensioner who, after contributing to the growth and development of Australia for 40 to 50 years, receives only a  monthly maximum of $1,012.00 in old age pension and Guaranteed Income Supplement. (Maybe our pensioners should apply as refugees!)

All Australians should be ticked off and maybe we can get the refugees cut back to $1,012.00 and the pensioners up to $2,470.00.

Its about time that every Australian expose what our elected politicians are doing to the over-taxed Australian and say hey what about looking after people that have contributed to making Australia what it is today and not just treating our elderly like an after thought.

The Tv is turned off

May 9th, 2008 by Mark Griffin | No Comments | Filed in Griffs View

tv is off

Is it just me or does mainstream tv just drive you crazy?

About 18 months ago i decided tv programming had got to the stage that i found it unwatchable. I remember sitting there in front of the box and as the latest rug sale ad blared its spiel of the week i thought that’s it, enough, enough, enough of this crap. I sat back over the next few days and thought what do i really watch tv for? I love my sports especially motor racing and AFL which is programmed from Friday night to Sunday afternoon so the decision was made, no tv during the week.

Public transport i love you not

Transperth bus

I consider my self patient and easy going but i do have a low tolerance level for bad service., So enough is enough with the public transport here in Perth. The bus service is just getting worse. Transperth is the provider here and after 3 days in a row of extremely poor trips home after along day, its time for a few chosen words.

You can keep Public Transport

March 6th, 2008 by Mark Griffin | No Comments | Filed in Griffs View

Public transport let me think. Well it sucks actually. After a shower and a fresh start to your day you board your choice of public transport and again meet those people who think hygiene is something you buy in Spain while on holiday.

Now don’t get me wrong some people need somewhere warm to hide for a while and the people who have decided to drink constantly need transport to the nearest ATM so they can get another load of beverages. But in those cases let’s just have transport setup especially for these people.
