The Cozy Suite – Building a Better Airplane Seat

Some refer to it as economy class syndrome. To others it’s know as a coach class clot. But whatever you call it, sitting squeezed into an airplane seat until you develop deep vein thrombosis is no way to die. And that’s why this strange new seat is worth checking out.

Perth Airport Blues
Well made my way to the airport ok and on arrival found that the long term parking now has been moved to an area adjacent to the normal entry and poorly sign posted to say the least. At 10.30 pm there was little traffic so i was able to pull up, reverse and make my way in to long term parking. To my surprise there was only 4 empty bays and the one I decided on had a distant view of the terminal. My first thoughts are thank god its not day time and 40′c or raining.
Luckily I consider my self able and fit so the 10 min stroll with the bags is not a big deal, but for one second imagine you are with small children, or you are elderly. There were no luggage trolleys anywhere, no undercover path if the elements required it or a shuttle service for those in need. I’m not impressed at all but Perth Airport is an ongoing embarrassment anyway in so many areas. What person decided this was a good idea probably does not have to use the facility.

Air Travel – I just don’t get it?
I mean don’t get me wrong I love the thought of a vacation and a chance to just chill away from the daily grind. You look forward to maybe catching up with distant friends overseas or visiting a wonder of the world that’s still on that list of places to see before you die. In a flash it hits you that you have to board a plane and fly. That sinking feeling starts and hits your guts like a bad curry.

For those of us that realise that the trip will be in the section of the plane I always refer to as cattle class the fear starts to mount days out from actually even getting to the airport. What a warm cosy feeling it must be to know, that you will be flying business class or the stuff of dreams for most “First Class”. As much as I feel flying is overrated and wish it could be over in the time of a quick meal and a movie, at least if you get to stay at the front of the jet you can maybe start your holiday once seated.
