The race is on … put a name to your Facebook
Get ready for the great Facebook land grab – at 2pm on Saturday, the social networking site will allow members to register their own user names to make it easier for others to find their pages.
The new system – already offered by MySpace and Twitter – will give people a simple, unique address, such as http://www.facebook.com/joebloggs, instead of the current system whereby profile pages have a URL with a randomly assigned number such as “www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=123456789″.

Facebook users to stay offline for 24 hours in protest
FACEBOOK addicts: it’s time to have sex, eat out, talk to a mate and, most importantly, stay offline.
More than 1.3 million users have vowed to turn their backs on the social networking site tonight for 24 hours in another protest against the revamped layout. Australian users will be among the first to log off at 6pm (AEDT) today, with global users joining at dinner time in each timezone. French resident Boris Kelevra created the site in response to limits put on sending messages and poking, among other changes.
