Vodafone offers free laptop Down Under

DELL AND VODAFONE will offer the computer maker’s compact netbook computer for nothing as part of a mobile broadband plan in Australia and New Zealand.

The Dell Mini 9 weighs just over 1kg and, with a small 8.9-inch screen. It is part laptop, part smartphone and we think a badger might have been involved in the conception. It has a built in 3G modem under the bonnet.

3G iPhone launch Perth 11-07-08

The iPhone release here in Perth has been dismal at best, very poorly launched and i wish i could say over hyped and under delivered but that would give undue credit where it is not due.

I have been amazed at the lack of advertising here for the iPhone and today i walked into the city center from my office to check first hand what was happening.

Vodafone iPhone plans

Vodafone has finally announced its iPhone plans, and the news isn’t great — only the most expensive $169 per month plan snags you a ‘free’ 8GB iPhone.

The plans, released and then pulled this morning, are not fully detailed so exact comparisons to the Optus plans are difficult to make. However, the cheapest iPhone specific plan is the $69 Cap which gives you a $310 talk and text credit and gives you 250MB of data per month, however you’ll need to shell out $189 for an 8GB iPhone or $309 for a 16GB iPhone.

A $99 Cap gets you $600 of credit but you’ll still need to pony $99 upfront for an 8GB iPhone, or $219 for the 16GB version, but you’ll get 500MB of data per month included in the plan.

The plans listed all specified on a 24 month contract, with no word on the availability of shorter 12 month contracts or the call costs. However, based on ‘regular’ Vodafone plans users will pay between 44c and 35c for 30 seconds of talk time with a 30c connection, and 25c per SMS.

Vodafone have also refrained from announcing any pre-paid plans, or ‘pre-release’ information.
