iiNet sued over BitTorrent piracy

As we all know BitTorrent piracy is always in the news, both here and overseas. Well iiNet is being sued over BitTorrent piracy by the major film companies and Chanel 7. I’m currently a Westnet customer using ADSL 2 with a combined 60GB monthly limit and now that Westnet is under the iiNet banner this is of interest to me. I’ve personally had a gutful of commercial tv and the programming, which treats all users like complete morons. Now that the old and tried formula is failing on viewers both young and old the heavies are up to the same old tricks of intimidation.

Both the free to air and paid programming is filled with ads’s that drive you insane. Why don’t these dinosaurs who run these operations take a step into the present and realise that user expectations have changed. I want targeted advertising about things Im interested in and at the start and end of the program or at least spaced at decent intervals. You know what i mean when its footy season and every time a goal is scored they go to an ad, it drives you crazy. Best bet like most is to just record the program and watch later fast forwarding all the ads.

The same is to be said for all my favourite shows, that i simply get the series complete and watch without the ads when i want and as often as i want. iTunes has made music easier and affordable to get when you want it and its not worth the hassle to get it any other way. So if i want to watch the latest shows why don’t i have the same options across the board yet? Its nearly the end of 2008 and we are still playing the same games. Wake up you media companies or go the way of the dinosaurs. My last thought is if your ISP stops BitTorrent traffic, who is going to need or want to pay for high speed ADSL plans anymore?, not many i suspect.

Village Roadshow, Universal, Warner Bros, Paramount, Sony, Twentieth Century Fox and Disney are the studios involved. Channel Seven (which has distribution deals with several of the named studios) is also a party to the suit.
