Get off the mobile while driving
June 22nd, 2008 by Mark Griffin | Filed under Griffs View, Tech and Gadgets.Every day I still see people holding there mobile phones while driving and just don’t get it. Are these people just stupid or simply arrogant and defiant of the law? Look firstly let’s make one thing clear, I’m not a fan of a police state or just fining people to make money.
After nearly being cleaned up multiple times while driving by people distracted by chatting on their mobile phones I just needed to vent a little.
A simple solution.
The penalty in Perth WA for Use of “Hand-Held Mobile Phone while driving” has increased from $100.00 and 3 demerit points to $250.00 and 3 demerit points. $250.00 is no small change, never mind the fact that you are distracted and may kill someone while driving that weapon of steel.
The solution is simple; just get a headset or a Bluetooth Handsfree device for the car. My current cell phone of choice is the Nokia N95 8GB and I use a Plantronics Explorer 320 Bluetooth Headset, which is a great piece of kit and is around $85.00 inc GST.
A good friend of mine who spends a lot of the time on the road swears by the Blue Ant Supertooth Light Bluetooth Handsfree Speakerphone which is around $118.00 inc GST. This looks fantastic and is easily mounted on the car’s sun-visor.
Now both these solutions cost well below the penalty of $250.00, so get your act together and the life you save might just be your own.
